I loved getting to meet and work with Jessica Dankenbrink of Bold Events for the centerpieces on our Spring Fiesta table. She has an eye for complementary colors and enriching textures, and as a result creates show stopping centerpieces perfect for any party motif.
During a time of the year where flowers truly are the signature, we tapped her creative brain for hints and tips on how to carry this inspiration throughout our accent pieces all season.
Spring is my absolute favorite time for flowers because they are truly in their prime right now. I love to work with lilacs, ranunculus, zinnias, snapdragons, parrot tulips and peonies this time of year, only to name a few. These flowers give me lots of creative space to play with their natural forms, and give arrangements a more organic look.
One element that helps a spring centerpiece truly stand out is having a great mix of textures and colors. Blending these two aspects together makes an arrangement fun, unexpected and interesting. For an even more unique look, I like to mix in hard elements with flowers and greenery. For example, with flowers like ranunculus, or cactus plants with soft flowers, try potting them in vessels made of concrete and wood, rather than the traditional glass or ceramic.
On that note, building flower arrangements in unconventional containers always adds interest to a tablescape. One of my favorite ways of doing this is by finding a piece of old wood and adding a mix of moss, air plants and candles for an inexpensive, yet fun, centerpiece option.
When you get creative and – quite literally – think outside the box, you’ll have arrangements that won’t be like anything you could find in the grocery store.
