I love getting to plan all sorts of events for my clients, and this retirement party for Kathy as she celebrated her 40-year career with Coca-Cola might be one of the most memorable. For starters, I got to work with our guest of honor’s family who brought me their vision – including a request from Kathy to make it fun and festive, a design that was modern, glamorous and as vibrant as she is with plenty of personalized touches to show off her favorite things.
Unique design elements stole the show, like a custom, artful pinpoint map to show off her travels, slideshows showcasing high moments from her career and geometric design elements to touch on her love for puzzles.
Coke played a role, for sure, but this event was drenched in shades of purple, white, black and gold, with cool furniture in mixed materials like velvet and leather that gave the room a glamorous feel. Custom stationery elevated the look of the party even further, via elegant napkins, adorable drink stirrers and fun signage. An impressive 8-foot banquette topped in oversized, lush purple floral stood in the center of the room, and everything was transformed by rich purple lighting.
We blended the Coca-Cola thematic into the party using unique flavor infusions for both the savory and sweets served at the event. Food stations included Coca-Cola brined ham, meatloaf sliders with Coca-Cola ketchup, and teriyaki chicken in a Coca-Cola soy sauce. Instead of a traditional champagne toast, everyone raised a glass of her favorite – Jack & Coke slushies.
Desserts were lined up on a modern octagon dessert shelf highlighted by a dramatic balloon and floral installation made of the gorgeous shades of purple and pops of gold from throughout the event. If the chocolate dipped strawberries, Coca-Cola Bundt cakes and more weren’t enough, guests could indulge even more at the interactive hot-fried donut station.
Guests spent their time mixing, mingling and having a great time on the dance floor, but they also made memories in the photo booth. I know she definitely felt the love and joy from all of her co-workers, family and friends as the celebrated her accomplishments, and I can’t wait to see what she does with her next 40 years!
