The Riviera Maya Luxury Hotel experience is nothing less than a little visit to paradise. Set on the white powdery sands of Playa del Carmen, Viceroy Riviera Maya is a serene and tranquil escape hidden within the sanctuary of a lush tropical rain forest. This seaside refuge is the ultimate destination for a romantic getaway or rejuvenating retreat – exactly the kind of trip my husband and I needed!
Upon arrival we were greeted at the resort with a refreshing welcome beverage and cool towels. We were personally led to our villa where the soap concierge cut the hand-made artisanal soaps we would enjoy during our stay. Our very own Mezcal shots added another festive note to kick off our vacation.
We enjoyed those cocktails while we soaked up the incredible views from our villa. The resort offers views of the grounds, partial views of the ocean and the Caribbean coastline. We settled into the Ocean View Villa, perfectly situated right off the beach and just steps from the resort’s pool. The villa boasted 1,700 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space with a personal plunge pool, outdoor rain shower and lounge area, and spacious bathroom with deep soaking tubs and his-and-hers sinks. Did I mention it was paradise?
We spent most of our time simply laying by the pool and walking along the beach, but we still found time to take advantage of the resort’s unique amenities. Painter’s Corner was the perfect place for my artistic side to find inspiration and a mellow spot for my husband to dive into a good book. For a taste of local flavor, we regularly showed up at the Library, where the staff hosts Tequila and Ceviche tastings by the resort’s Maestro Tequilero. We got to review three high-end tequilas – each accompanied by different sangritas – along with the spirit history and proper drinking methods.
Relaxing works up an appetite – believe it or not. And the dining scene at Viceroy Riviera Maya offers a little something for everyone. Set by the sand with magnificent vistas of the turquoise Caribbean water, Coral Grill was our favorite with an “Al fresco cuisine” that focuses on locally caught and responsibly-fished seafood, local organic produce as well as homemade pizzas baked in the wood-fired oven. We loved how the open-air restaurant allowed us to savor every bite with a side of the warm Caribbean breeze and salt kissed air.
Don’t ask me to go on vacation without a little spa time carved out. Inspired by marine and herbal ingredients, my husband and I both had the chance to rejuvenate and refresh our mind and body amidst the lush tropical landscape of Wayak Spa. Offering holistic and Mayan inspired treatments, we experienced a sense of renewal you just can’t find at home in the city. Their highly trained staff helped to restore, rejuvenate and refresh both of us through the massages, facials, body treatments and body wraps – all made better that it’s to the soundtrack of the Caribbean Sea.
We were so blessed by our time at Viceroy Riviera Maya! The staff were amazing, the accommodations and food were incredible, and we just can’t wait to go back!
