There’s something about a city with a rich history that makes for a romantic setting to get married. And styling a wedding in Rome was just as much of a creative dream come true! With the blend of color, culture and architecture I got to see every day, I felt inspired to blend rich hues of reds, pinks, and gold with soft details against the Hotel Vilon for something that felt drenched in romance, but undeniably sophisticated – understated, but stunning, just like the city.
As it often does, it all began with the dress! Zuhair Murad is a designer known for his craftsmanship, glamour and stylistic reverie. From the moment I saw “Charline,” a blush strapless A-line wedding dress, I knew its dramatic and romantic style embodied the kind of wedding scape I’d envisioned here. The embroidered ball gown from the Fall 2018 Wedding Collection features a ruffled tulle skirt that is classic and elegant, but subtly modern. We added accessories for just the right amount of sparkle with a beaded clutch, beaded headpiece, and a complementary bracelet and earrings.
With such a statement dress on our beautiful bride, I wanted hair and makeup to be soft and natural, but not subtle. Italian stylist Ruslana Regi added a pop of red lipstick for that perfect romantic punch.
Framing our bride – be still my heart – was a seemingly endless arrangement of flowers by Anthea Studio. A balanced statement of drama and softness highlighted the ambiance of romance and a brightly colored bouquet danced with movement and left us wanting more with its trailing ribbons.
Hotel Vilon provided the ideal canvas to paint this picture with its classic architecture and boutique-style grounds. Getting married here embodies what everyone always says they want – timeless glamour fit for a modern world.
As much as I live for the big picture of any wedding, I love the details just as much and with such grandeur going on, this stationery suite did not disappoint. Paper Daisies featured an elegant gold foil and classic wax seal, but added a stylish twist with a hint of color in the modern and feminine envelope liner decked in delicate floral.
But speaking of that big picture, this one is something I’m so proud of. The reception table in the hotel’s restaurant Adelaide featured bold elements I’ve never done before – gold leaf linen, a pink tufted banquettes, a beautiful centerpiece of pink florals, gold laser cut table numbers and natural, ambient candlelight. It may not be tables for two, but it’s a romantic dinner to inspire any kind of love story.
My favorite part about designing this wedding was watching how natural beauty made room for such a powerful style statement. And in this case, we illustrated how even an intimate wedding can be full of personality and overflowing in beautiful details. In the conversation of romance, I can definitely say, I’m wooed.
