An out-of-the-box party idea is what I love most, so when I got the chance to dress up an otherwise ordinary Easter Sunday, I jumped. The guest of honor was Quavo, from the hip hop trio Migos, celebrating his 27th birthday by giving back to children and fans at his alma mater, Berkmar High School. With a little help from his star power circle, it would be a celebration no one would forget!
Brought into the project by event producer Karleen Roy of The Vanity Group, this was unlike any birthday celebration I have done before, and definitely one of the most fun. Centered around a celebrity touch football game, we started by designing a VIP locker room branded with old football photos of our guest of honor and life-sized cut-outs of other players. We outfitted all the players with custom gear, and “Team Huncho vs. Team Julio Jones” set the tone for the friendly battle to come.
My favorite part, though, was the fantasy Easter egg hunt lawn with a 20-foot tree that was customized with the letters QC at the base. We brought in yards of boxwood hedges to hide over 20,000 Easter eggs – I’ll never forget the look on the kids’ sweet faces as they raced to grab their eggs.
The party also included giving fans plenty of photo ops with an oversized Huncho Day lawn sign, a custom step and repeat banner made out of AstroTurf, and a custom-branded football field. Kids had the chance to enjoy football drills before the whistle blew.
The Carnival Field kept the fun going for the kids with plenty of carnival food, games, and entertainment.
The most anticipated moment of the day, Team Huncho faced off against Team Julio in friendly touch football. The celebrity game, comprised of hip hop stars and NFL players, included Julio Jones, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Alvin Kamara, Rich the Kid, Ezekiel Elliott, Josh Norman and more. And speaking again of those kids’ faces, the look getting to meet and watch some of their favorite guys in action was priceless.
It was a day those kids will never forget – and neither will I! I loved the heart behind the event and appreciated the spirit that inspired such a vibrant celebration.
