For those of you that have followed me for a little while, you know I love it when I get to help design and plan multiple milestone celebrations for one family. It’s an honor to be invited back, and I love building upon what I’ve learned about a family from one event to another. I have been planning this particular client’s birthday parties since before she was born – starting with her mom’s baby shower! It’s been a special kind of joy to watch the birthday girl grow up, and it was an honor to make her 8th birthday something extra special.
Camryn’s biggest dream was to combine the magic of unicorns with interactive arts and crafts, fun carnival games and lots of great opportunities for her to make memories with her friends and family. With that on the table, I knew we were going to design something vibrant, colorful and absolutely unforgettable.
The magic began as soon as the birthday girl’s invitees arrived. Every guest started the party by adopting their very own plush unicorn. They used our naming chart to give them a special name completed the adoption certificate to make it official. After that, things got messy – and fun! A slime station, unicorn crafts, caricature artist and unicorn photo booth gave everyone plenty to do while parents relaxed in the sophisticated, rainbow-hued lounge.
We gave the kids about an hour of crafting and hands-on fun before moving a secret wall to reveal a grand party space for yummy lunch, sweet treats and carnival games. I wanted this space to be colorful and magical, and watching their eyes light up and their feet get busy was so rewarding. We covered numerous wall panels in big, geometric patterns made of vibrant floral and rainbow balloons. To complement that, we installed wooden tables for lunch topped with shiny hologram paper goods, happy unicorn piñatas (filled with candy for the kids to take home) and bright floral centerpieces that tied everything together in a fun, fresh way.
The room quite literally came alive in rainbow colors, which highlighted the Velcro wall, carousel ride and custom cornhole boards. My favorite piece was the custom “Camryn” neon sign that hung over the dessert display. It looked awesome for the event, but our guest of honor also got to take it home and hang it in her room after the party – a super cool gift for a very unique girl!
Lunch was just as fun as the games, including unicorn grilled cheese sandwiches, fresh hot French Fries and classic corn dogs. After singing happy birthday everyone dove into the array of treats on the dessert table, which offered colorful cotton candy, an ice cream bar, cute unicorn cupcakes, iced sugar cookie rainbows and adorable macarons.
With a room full of sensational rainbows, smiling unicorns and happy 8-year-olds, it was a magical afternoon, indeed – one the birthday girl won’t ever forget!
