How to have a sophisticated private estate party by Atlanta event planner Lemiga Events

As a luxury event planner based in Atlanta, there’s nothing more rewarding than getting the opportunity to work with past clients and witness their love story continue to unfold. I had the joy of planning this couple’s wedding back in 2014, and when they approached me to design and produce their 10 year anniversary party, I knew we had to create something truly special. While the initial plan was to host the celebration at the hotel where they were married, ultimately they decided that entertaining at their private estate would feel more personal and allow for a completely customized event.

Transforming a Private Estate into a Luxury Event Venue

To accommodate their 150 guests for a seated dinner with a dance floor, we essentially built an event venue from the ground up on their property. This approach allowed us to tailor every detail to reflect the couple’s sophisticated style while maximizing the beauty of their home and surroundings. The result was a modern black and white celebration that blended luxe design, a superior food and beverage experience, and entertainment that moved the soul, and surprised and delighted our guests all night.

When conceptualizing the design, I was inspired by the black architectural elements of my clients’ home. I wanted to create a party design that blended seamlessly. The home’s black framed windows and sleek lines inspired much of the decor, allowing the custom black tent and overall event to feel like a natural extension of the property. As a guest you couldn’t help but notice all the thoughtful cohesive details between the architecture and the event design.

The Black & White Event Design Breakdown

As guests arrived at the party, you could see the timeless black and white color palette with modern touches take shape. Walking into the outdoor party space, guests were welcomed into the celebration with a custom seating chart with the words “Tonight We Celebrate”. It was a stunning introduction that set the tone for the party.

Instead of opting for a traditional photo booth, we elevated the experience with a portrait booth by Sophia Barrett, complete with a custom designed backdrop. Guests posed with a gorgeous curved sofa anchored by beautiful flowers. The backdrop wall incorporated the couple’s monogram and was flanked by oversized crystal chandeliers. This was definitely a popular spot for guests to have their portrait taken and leave with a keepsake to cherish long after the night ended.

I love having a design element that I can repeat and use throughout an event. For this anniversary party it was the use of black fluted panels that added an interior design and modern element. These panels were thoughtfully integrated across the bars, seating chart, photo backdrop, and even the stage backdrop, reinforcing the sleek, contemporary vibe of the event.

There’s nothing like fresh flowers to add beauty and dimension! We used different textures of white blooms like orchids, roses, and anemones in modern black vases. Luxe lounge areas with plush furniture and monogrammed pillows provided cozy spaces for guests to mingle. And lighting is always key for any good party! From dramatic uplighting, to sparkling chandeliers and soft candlelight — lighting added warmth and depth to the monochromatic palette.

We always use stationery details to reflect the couples’ style and to tell a story throughout the design. Every stationery detail, from the invitation suite, to the menu cards, and bespoke signage, incorporated the custom monogram and brought our black, white and gold event to life.

The main party space was simply breathtaking. In addition to the striking black tent, every element was designed with beauty and intention, blending clean white with pops of black for a bold, modern effect. White carpet flooring created a fresh, bright foundation, while residential style chairs and dining tables added an intimate, home like feel. The place settings featured black flatware and menu cards elegantly wrapped inside black napkins, offering a sophisticated contrast against the white linens.

A black dance floor with a shimmering gold monogram became the focal point of the evening, illuminated by gorgeous chandeliers suspended overhead.

Towering white floral centerpieces added a dramatic wow factor to the dining tables, while smaller floral arrangements and candlelight were thoughtfully placed throughout the space to create a warm atmosphere.

The couple enjoyed the night from their special sweetheart table, perfectly positioned to take in all the entertainment and celebrate surrounded by loved ones. This thoughtful mix of interior design elements and personalized touches brought the main party space together beautifully, creating an atmosphere that was both luxurious and inviting.

What Made This Anniversary Party So Special

Beyond the stunning aesthetics, what made this event truly memorable was the personal touch that came with hosting it at the couple’s home. Guests were able to experience true hospitality in a space filled with memories, making the celebration feel intimate and heartfelt. At the end of the day, it’s all about how you make people feel. I personally greeted every guest and my team and I escorted them to their dinner seating.

Entertainment was a key element woven throughout the night. The Bryan Eng Jazz Trio set the mood during cocktail hour, followed by an electrifying performance from Fortress Band of Elan Artists during dinner. The evening reached its peak with a surprise performance by the legendary Chaka Khan, leaving guests absolutely spellbound.

No luxury event is complete without an exceptional culinary experience, and Chez Montier delivered just that. From delectable passed appetizers and craft cocktails to an exquisite dinner and decadent dessert, the cuisine was a true highlight of the night.

It was a magical evening where friends and family gathered to toast the happy couple. True to Southern hospitality, every guest felt seen, cherished, and left with a happy memory and a full belly. The combination of personal touches, stunning design, and unforgettable entertainment made this anniversary celebration one for the ages.

Tips for Planning a Private Estate Event

Hosting an event at a private estate offers a level of personalization and exclusivity that’s hard to match, but it comes with its own set of considerations and challenges. Here are a few tips to ensure your private estate event goes off without a hitch:

  1. Understand the Logistics: Private estates often require additional planning for things like parking, permits, and restroom facilities. Work with an experienced Atlanta event planner who can navigate these challenges seamlessly.
  2. Invest in the Right Infrastructure: From custom tents to power generators, ensure you have the right infrastructure to support your event’s needs without compromising comfort or style.
  3. Tailor the Design to the Space: A private estate allows for complete design freedom. Use the natural surroundings and architectural features to inspire your event’s aesthetic and create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
  4. Hire a Full Service Planning Team: A luxury event at a private estate requires a planner who can manage every detail, from design and production to vendor coordination and day of execution.
  5. Consider the Weather: Have a backup plan in case of unexpected weather changes. Investing in climate control solutions, such as heaters or fans, can keep guests comfortable regardless of the forecast.
