With only three weeks to plan an unforgettable celebration, I was honored to have John and Aventer Gray trust me to make their 8-year vow renewal something special. One of the very first things we talked about together was the significance that the number eight is to the Gray’s relationship. With plenty of supporting details in my back pocket, I knew I wanted to make this number the focal point of my entire design.
We started by turning the 8 on its side to become the infinity sign – a perfect way to celebrate eight years together and a lifetime yet to come. Our graphic designer created a monogram with the infinity “8” that we could incorporate throughout the details of the day, putting a signature stamp on this special event.
Once we had a theme nailed down, I chose a color palette inspired by the fabric from Mrs. Gray’s dress. During the ceremony, I wanted the bold texture of her gown to stand out, so we anchored a romantic, candlelit aisle with a bold black runner imprinted with the monogram in glistening rose gold. The ceremony stage backdrop was highlighted with custom candelabras and an 8-foot-tall rose gold infinity filled in with a lush meadow of flowers in shades of white and light purple. It was the perfect setting for Mrs. Gray to walk down the aisle – an absolute vision preceded by her children.
As the party transitioned to the reception, I wanted the guests to recognize a natural contrast, so we designed this space using deep berry hues of purple, pink and red, along with rose gold. The tables were a mix of shimmering champagnes accented by rose gold chairs and complementing chargers. We continued to showcase the custom infinity monogram in the foldout menu cards, in each table number and throughout the custom-built infinity centerpieces.
Guests flocked to a beautiful rose gold dance floor framed by a custom infinity backdrop finished with vibrant floral. The family table overlooked the dance floor on a matching rose gold stage. Their table was nestled between the couple’s beautiful anniversary cake and a surprise for Mr. Gray – a second cake, resembling his book, “I Am Number 8.” The entire scene was stylish, and personal.
The entertainment was just as dynamic as the decor. Dinner began with a musical medley by artist Tyrese, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Major serenaded them with his song, “This is Why I Love You.”
From beautiful gowns to showstopping design, personal details and touches of family, it truly was a special night with so much love filling up this beautiful room. From me, a big toast to celebrate the Gray Family – here’s to your infinity yet to come!
