It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s … A Party! | A Superhero Birthday Bash

While there are certainly some differences when it comes to planning an elegant, magazine-worthy wedding versus a kid’s birthday party, I always get excited for the chance to explore a different side of my creativity. In fact, anytime I design a birthday party, it’s always my goal to give it a fresh and modern spin. And as much fun as I had working with the Biermann’s on Kim’s birthday, I couldn’t wait for the chance to dive into planning their sons’ backyard birthday celebration.

With a little input from the two superheroes of the house, KJ and Kash, we created a superhero’s dream playground right in the middle of their backyard. And the best part was that this was a party that both the kids and their parents (read: the bigger kids) absolutely loved.

It started with the Superhero Hideout. As guests arrived through a massive and colorful balloon arch, they stopped here first. A custom designed installation, this larger-than-life dressing room allowed the kids to literally design their own superhero. They chose a name, picked a cape and a mask to create the look, and they finished it off with a face painting or a tattoo.

Inside the Superhero Tent was where both superheroes and their sidekicks (or, their parents) could refuel. As a “sidekick” myself, it was a priority to keep the parents comfy, so I created a chic parent lounge where adults could relax and hang out while the kids dined at tables overflowing with brightly colored balloons and fun place settings. These little heroes had filled their plates with a special superhero themed menu that was as much fun to look at, as it was to eat. Plus, the dining table gave them a mouth-watering view of the dessert backdrop featuring a custom wall with skyscrapers and city skylines filled with sweet treats.

To keep the kids engaged (and cool), we planned a variety of Superhero Entertainment for honing in on their city-saving skills, including laser tag, a water blaster game, exciting water slide and a superhero obstacle course. The fun kept coming with popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones.

It was a lot of detail – and a lot of action! – but seeing the kids’ faces happily exhausted as they left made this such a fun party to design, and all the attention to detail so worth it! Any little superheroes in your life who would love this idea? I can’t wait to see your interpretation!
